2. Trademark Application

    • Name, address and nationality of the applicant
    • A certified copy of the priority document (if needed)

4. Handling Provisional Refusal for Madrid Protocol Applications in Japan

4-1. Receipt of Provisional Refusal

You'll receive a package from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which will contain a Provisional Refusal issued by the Japan Patent Office.

4-2. Deadline for Response: 3 Months

The deadline is calculated from the "date of pronouncement" listed at the bottom of the first page of the Provisional Refusal document.

You must respond within this time limit to evade a Decision of refusal.

Note that the Japan Patent Office will not voluntarily remove items or services mentioned in the refusal.
